How BIAN handles author and publisher claim verification

This page explains the purpose of claim review, why verification matters, and how BIAN approaches ownership and profile access decisions.

Purpose

Why BIAN reviews profile claims

Claim and verification review exists to reduce impersonation, protect publisher and author records, and keep profile ownership changes traceable.

Before a claim is reviewed

Claims may require verified identity first

Before BIAN processes a claim, the claimant may be required to verify their email address and complete any role-specific information needed for review.

Email verification

A verified email address helps BIAN keep claim requests accountable and enables follow-up when more evidence is needed.

Role fit

BIAN may review whether the requested role and the profile being claimed reasonably match.

Review standards

BIAN may request supporting evidence

For some claims, especially publisher and enterprise-linked requests, BIAN may review public evidence, official contact details, organization context, and other supporting information before approving access.

Disputes and conflicts

Competing claims can stay pending during review

If multiple people request the same profile, BIAN may hold, reject, or reverse claims based on the evidence available, prior approvals, and platform integrity needs. Approved claims can affect later requests to the same profile.
