How BIAN handles account and verification data

This summary explains what information BIAN collects for account registration, profile verification, support, and platform operations, and how that information is used.

What we collect

Information you give us directly

When you create an account, claim a profile, request support, or ask for a correction, BIAN may collect your name, email address, role, organization details, publisher or author claim details, and any information you choose to send in those requests.

Account data

Name, email address, role selection, password hash, verification status, and account activity timestamps.

Profile claim data

Requested profile links, organization or authorship details, supporting notes, and review outcomes.

How we use it

BIAN uses account information to operate the service

We use your information to create and secure your account, verify your email address, route you to the right workspace, review ownership or correction requests, support operational analytics, and respond to support or abuse reports.

Security and abuse prevention

We use limited operational logs and account signals to detect suspicious activity, repeated login failures, or misuse of profile claims.

Service operations

We use activity and telemetry signals to improve system performance, reliability, and role-based workflows.

Sharing and retention

We limit sharing and keep records only as long as needed

BIAN does not sell user account data. We may share information with service providers that help us operate the platform, such as email delivery providers, hosting infrastructure, and support tooling. We retain account and review records for as long as they are needed to operate the service, resolve disputes, meet operational or legal obligations, and keep an auditable history of profile ownership decisions.

Service providers

Examples include hosting, email verification delivery, and operational monitoring providers that process data on our behalf.

Review history

Claim and verification decisions may be retained to prevent abuse, duplicate disputes, or repeated false ownership attempts.

Your choices

You can contact us about your account or data

If you need to correct your account details, request account deletion, question a claim decision, or report a privacy concern, contact the BIAN team through the support page. We may ask you to verify your identity before making account-level changes.
